WHAT’S THE BEST CBD DOSAGE?
Learning about cannabidiol (CBD) and the therapeutic applications of phytocannabinoids leads many to speak with their physician and add broad-spectrum CBD to their wellness regimen. Unfortunately, there is significant confusion regarding how to dose CBD, even among practitioners. Mastering the art of dosing CBD is a fundamental step toward optimizing the benefits we can glean.
Individuals Require Individualized Doses
Human beings have unique endocannabinoid tone; our response to cannabinoids is subjective and determined by genetics, diet and exercise, sleep, and other environmental factors. In one study, for example, South Asian men were found to have a higher endocannabinoid tone than Caucasian men.
According to the British Journal of Pharmacology, endocannabinoid tone is “governed by the combination of synthetic pathways and inactivation involving transport and degradation.” A study in Cell Metabolismdescribes endocannabinoid tone as the “regulation of endocannabinoid levels as modulated by different, often concurring, enzymatic cascades.” The practical result is that certain individuals possess greater sensitivity to the effects of phytocannabinoids.
Start Low & Go Slow
CBD is safe and very well-tolerated even at high doses. Animal studies and human clinical trials may implement doses much larger than what is strictly required to pronounce pharmaceutical effects and gauge toxicity. For the greatest therapeutic potential, we recommend starting at 25 mg and titrating up or down until the desired results are achieved.
A dose of 25 mg is low enough to avoid any minor side effects, but sufficient enough to convey results in the majority of individuals. This dose can be administered once or twice daily. The consumer should anticipate 5-7 days of use before experiencing results. A dose of 25 mg is effective with softgels and oil tinctures.
Liposome products, such as Liposomal 300, do not require 25 mg since they confer 5x greater bioavailability. Liposomes transport phytocannabinoids safely through the oral and intestinal membranes, bypassing metabolism in the stomach and liver. The result is much more effective delivery. This method will render similar effects at a dose of only 5 mg.
The constitution of the individual is always a variable in health and wellness. Start with our recommended dosing and modify it to your personal needs. Remember to always discuss CBD with a healthcare provider and be sure to mention any other medications you are taking. Once you’ve surmounted dosing, you are prepared to reap the full benefits of broad-spectrum CBD.
